Senior Pastor

Rev. Buddy Hunt became our pastor in November 2008. He moved to Tahlequah from the pastorate of Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan, OK. Bro. Buddy previously pastored First Baptist Churches in Perry, Alva, and Spiro. Before entering the pastorate he served as Youth Minister at First Baptist Clinton and First Baptist Duncan as well as Minister of Education at First Baptist Clinton. For six years he served on staff at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

Bro. Buddy has served as President of the Oklahoma Baptist Pastor’s Conference and as Vice President of the BGCO. He has served twice on the Nominating Committee for the BGCO and has served on the Committee on Committees for the Southern Baptist Convention. He also completed a four year term on the Board of Directors for the BGCO.

Our Pastor is married to Michell and they have two daughters Hilary and Ashley. Hilary lives in Duncan and Ashley lives in Tahlequah.

Music Minister

Bro. Andy is the most recent addition to the staff at FBC Tahlequah.  Bro. Andy and his family moved to Tahlequah in July 2009 from FBC Fairview Heights, Illinois where he served as the Minister of Worship.  Prior to FBC Fairview Heights, he served Trinity Baptist Church in Ada, OK, First Baptist Church Piedmont, OK Hopewell Baptist Church in Bethel Acres, OK and Amity Baptist Church of El Reno, OK. 

Andy has served as the Metro East Baptist Associational Music Director in Illinois for 5 years. He also was chair-man of the Resolutions and Christian Life Committee of the Illinois Baptist State Association for 2 years. Bro. Andy’s musical interests also include participation in the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma for numerous years. 

Andy met his wife Polly while serving at FBC Piedmont.  They have been married for almost 24 years and have two children, Lauren and Drew.  Lauren is a college student attending Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar Missouri and Drew lives at home and attends Tahlequah High School.

Associate Pastor

Bro. Ed was saved in 1982 and was called into full time vocational ministry in 1995. Before his call to ministry he had successful careers in management, UPS, and Sales for Otis Spunkmeyer where he ranked in the top 20 yearly.

Since his call, Bro. Ed has served as Single Adult Minister for Spring Baptist Church, Minister of Education at FBC North Houston, and has served here at FBC as Associate Pastor since January 2006.

Bro. Ed married his soul mate Kim in 1980 and has two lovely daughters Dana who lives in Houston and Laura who lives in Tahlequah. He is grateful for the church family God has given him at FBC.

Minister to Students/Families

Nate came to First Baptist in January of 2012.  Before moving to Tahlequah, he served for three years at First Baptist Church of Moore in Moore, Oklahoma as the Associate Student Pastor.  Prior to Moore, he spent 1 year at First Baptist Stillwater in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and 3 years at Canyon Del Oro Baptist Church in Oro Valley (Tucson), Arizona.  Nate has been serving as a youth minister in part-time and full-time roles since he was 19.

Nate has served on the executive staff for Super Summer of Oklahoma for 6 years as well as on the YEC state board. Nate loves working with students and their families and seeing God transform lives in ways that only He can.

Nate met the love of his live, Hannah, in 2004 during a BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry) meeting on the campus of UCO.  Nate and Hannah both attended the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma and were married in 2006.  Hannah is currently staying home with their 2 year old son Kasen. 

Nate’s life verse is 1 Peter 3:15-16 “15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.”

Minister to Children and Preschoolers

Jayna Coppedge’s earliest memory is walking through the Dutch doors at her church in Odessa Texas.  “I remember sitting in Scotty’s lap thinking that Scotty lived at the church just so I could sit in her lap.  I am told that I did not like to share that lap.” Perhaps that is why she is so passionate to share the news of God ‘s love with First Baptist’s youngest. “I believe even in my toddler years God was molding my heart to love Him and want to serve Him. I was saved in first grade and wept because I was so sorry that Jesus had to die for me and I am still so grateful that He did.”

In 1990 Jayna started as part-time staff at FBC Tahlequah focusing all of her attention on infant through Kindergarteners. Then in 2002 she became the fulltime children’s minister adding first-sixth grade to her responsibilities.

She has written literature  for LifeWay publications Preschool Bible Foundations and Preschool TeamKID. She leads conferences across the state and was the Darlene Koch Award receipt in 2000.

She married Steve Coppedge in 1982 and they have two great children Laura who is living overseas and Tyler a senior at Southwestern Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.

Ministry Assistant

Autumn grew up in Pryor, OK. She attended First Baptist Church of Pryor where she accepted Christ in Jr. High school. She came to Tahlequah in the fall of 2007 to attend Northeastern State University. She graduated from NSU in May of 2011 with a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. She began her full-time work as the Ministry Assistant at FBC Tahlequah shortly after.

Staff Assistant

Mandy hails from the small town of Stilwell where she grew up in the Pentecostal Holiness Church and accepted Jesus Christ into her heart in the year 1996. She attended Northeastern State University from 2005 to 2007 then transferred to John Brown University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design in May of 2010. She began working for First Baptist in November of 2010 as a full time Staff Assistant.

Mandy met her husband Seth while attending NSU in 2007 and they were married in June of 2011.

Building Manager

Barney grew up in Jay, Oklahoma and moved to Tahlequah in 1968.  He worked at W. W. Hasting Hospital until he retired after 32 years of service.  He received training in Dietary Management in Santa Fe, N.M. Barney began working part-time here at the church in 2001 and in 2005 he began working full-time. 

Barney accepted Jesus as his Savior in June of 2007 and was baptized the following July. He really enjoys working here serving our Lord and working with the staff and members. 

Barney and he wife, Linda, were married in December of 1983 and they have five children between them.
